Developmental Delays

Developmental Delays

Dean was only 5lb 9oz when he was born at 37 weeks.  At his first pediatrician appointment they said he was in the 5th percentile.  That small baby didn’t last long!  After that he was continuously in the 90th percentile and at his 12 month appoint he was off the charts.  We constantly hear from [...]

Chrismukkah Gift Guide

Chrismukkah Gift Guide

In our house we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah.  I grew up celebrating both, my Mom is Jewish and my Dad was raised Catholic.  I always thought it was “normal” when I was young, then eventually realized not everyone does it this way.  Anyone remember the “Chrismukkah” episode of The OC?  That's my life!  Even though it’s not traditional, I am so excited to continue the same traditions with Dean.  Hanukkah means 8 nights of presents so I am always looking for books and smaller items and for Christmas we do 1 or 2 big gifts.  This year were staying home for Christmas.  Ryan actually has to work on the 25th so we are taking a trip after on the 27th.   I wanted to share a list of the gifts I’m eyeing for Dean this year.

Dean’s Next Step

Dean’s Next Step

Yesterday Dean had a big doctor’s appointment.  I went in prepared with a long list of questions and ideas about what was going to take place in this appointment.  Of course none of my ideas were correct and I left feeling pretty out of control.  I absolutely hate that feeling!  I hate not being in control and not knowing what is best for my own child.  Yet it is a feeling I need to get use to because I feel it all too often after appointments.

Weekend Away

Weekend Away

No real blog post this week.  We had a crazy weekend and just got back from Florida yesterday.  Unfortunately, my Grandfather passed away last week.  I found out Wednesday and had to leave Thursday because my family is Jewish and he needed to be laid to rest before the Sabbath. Although his death seemed sudden he was 92 and lived a very fulfilling life.  He was always willing to help others and saw the best in everyone, his funeral was reminder on how great of a man he was.

Therapy, Therapy, Therapy

Therapy, Therapy, Therapy

Before Dean was born we knew we had a long road of therapy ahead of us.  Now that he is here he does therapy 4 days a week.  It’s a crazy schedule, thank goodness Ryan has a flexible job and we are able to make it work.  I take him to only 1 appointment a month and it is so exciting to see his progression since the last appointment.  I have been doing swimming with him and we have just signed him up for gymnastics.  This time is not only time reserved for just him and I but a fun way to do therapy as well.

Dean + Plae Are Giving Back

Dean + Plae Are Giving Back

Dean and Plae are teaming up to help an organization very dear to us.  When we first found out Dean had a stroke we were devastated and had no idea what to expect.  We wanted to educate ourselves and came across the CHASA (Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association) website.  We were able to read and learn so much about our child that wasn’t even born yet.  Now that he is here and thriving the organization has given us a way, through Facebook, to connect with other families in similar situations.
